WHAT: In this Empathy Events talk, speakers Ilana Rubenstein and Kim Smiley will give the narrative around beauty a facelift. Exploring ideals of beauty beyond the physical, they will uncover a deeper, more soulful understanding of aesthetics. Join Ilana and Kim as they hold a mirror up for women and girls to contemplate themselves in a more empowering way, adding depth, substance and authenticity to an area often marred by superficiality, manipulation and myth.

WHY: We are bombarded with beauty ideals. From the images of perfection we see in glossy magazines to the billboards that line our city streets. These constructs of beauty feel oppressive and impossible to escape.

WHO: Women of all ages.

SHOP for a CAUSE: The presentation will be delivered in Designer and Social Entrepreneur Kim Smiley's Atelier, where her jewellery will also be available for purchase. Kim’s new clothing and accessories line will also be on display. Twenty percent (20%) of proceeds with benefit Ilana Rubenstein's upcoming book, Choosing Up.

DETAILS: $36 per person, includes raffle ticket for a metallic lace cuff and kosher refreshments. Space is limited. For further information, email kim@kimsmiley.com or ilana.rubenstein@gmail.com

With her trademark storytelling art, Ilana Rubenstein takes us through the seemingly mundane to discover the Choosing Up moments in life. Choosing Up means not only asking "why?" something happens, but answering the call of "for what purpose am I experiencing this?" Choosing Up is the art of finding meaning and G-d, connection and growth in the architecture of our lives. Weaving together the latest in psychological evidence and Torah wisdom, Ilana inspires and empowers us to see the opportunities calling to us in life. More than a book, it’s a way of being, an invitation to join a movement. How are you Choosing Up?
